In September 2003 the Royal Opera House (ROH) released a specially designed interactive opera software package; In2arts:Opera. With government support it was sent to every state secondary school in England (approximately 5000). This site has been specially created as an additional resource and traces the way in which a production comes into the ROH. As with the software it is based upon the opera ‘Peter Grimes’.

This site has 7 main sections. The information from each of these accumulates to chart the process by which a production comes into the Royal Opera House.

At any one time there may be as many as 1200 people working at the ROH - including artists, production staff and administration. This website starts with the people who make the programming decisions, moves through the production process, and finishes with the performers themselves.

It will be compiled in stages from January 2004, and each subsequent month until July there will be a new section added until you will have a complete and unique picture of what happens behind the scenes.
